If you do not have your coffee grinder, you’ll need to ask a customer service representative at a nearby retailer to bring their coffee grinder along. Otherwise, many local shops or coffee houses will gladly grind your beans right there on the premises.

    This is important because you’d grind the beans much finer when making regular coffee with a coffee maker. That is different here, as you want confidence that the grind size will easily be filtered out after steeping. To make a big batch of cold brew, use two times more coffee than your usual brew ratio of one part coffee to two parts coffee to water and grind the beans accordingly.

    Step 2: Place the Coffee Grounds in a Large Mason Jar

    The second step is to place the coffee grounds in a large mason jar. This brewing method begins with adding 1-1/2 cups of coffee grounds to your jar for every 3 cups of filtered water. Over time, this ratio will become ingrained into your process – making it easier and easier to make homemade cold-brew coffee.

    After adding the grounds and water together, place a lid or coffee filter on top of the jar and give it a gentle shake. Covering it is essential so that none of your precious cold brews escapes; you want all that lovely flavor in your cup!
